Lunch by the river

O/N in Hampi

Jan 24th

Matanga Hill, Sunrise
Try free hand, boldering at Hampi for those interested. Other can simple enjoy the spiritual experience.

 3) Transport (Mumbai to Hospet by Volvo; Hospet to Humpi public transport); (Day 1 would be walking trip); (Covers Day 2 rickshaw cost; boat cost while crossing river); entry fee to our destination sites where we are going as a group). (Day 3) Return Journey to Hubli by Local Transport bus; Volvo from Hubli to Mumbai.

About Hampi

Hampi is a world heritage site, famous for ruins of medival Hindu Kingdom of Vijayanagar. Time seems to have stopped at Hampi when the clock hit medieval centuries. Temples, Monolictics, Palaces, Museums, Ancient Markets, Ghats, Hills and the wonderously carved Giant Granite Bolders of Hampi leaves you mesmerised.

Hampi is also an un-disputed best site for Boldering in India.

Hampi is located on the banks of Tungabhadra River in central Karnataka at an altitude of 467 meters above sea level, around 13 km from Hospet and around 16 hours journey from Mumbai, 10 hours from Bangalore, 4 hours from Hubli.

Hampi is blessed with tropical climate, warm between April to June, plesant chill between November to February and monsoon rains from June to August.

Best time to visit: October to March

History

The first settlement in Hampi dates back to 1st century AD and a number of Buddhist sites belonging to that time have been found nearby. Hampi was also the capital of the mighty Vijaynagar Empire. The kingdom that went on the become one of the most powerful Hindu Kingdoms of its time. Two brothers, Harihar and Bukka founded it in 1336 reached its peak during the rule of King Krishnadevaraya (1509 - 1529). The town of Hampi in 14th century had a population of around 5 lac people, the walled city fortified by seven concentric lines of defending walls. The kingdom maintained a huge army to protect it from aggressors. Vijaynagar Empire flourished, as it controlled both cotton and spice trade routes of southern India. The kingdom glory camp to an adrupt end during 1565 when it was attacked by a consortium of Sultans.



 


Checklist - What to carry?

Carry all your luggage backpack or trolley bags

Day pack

Also carry a day pack with you; (Day pack would contain your personal medical kit; cap; flash light; pocket knife; personal munchies (snack) in between meals; Hand towel; hand sanitizer; Water 2 liters per head.), Sun Screen and Camera; note book; maps etc.

Luggage in main bag

Change clothes; soap; towel; dusting anti-fungal powder or any other dusting powder you would prefer. Mild Winter clothes. Light bed-sheet for journey. (Don’t forget to carry water during journey). Carry your bed-sheet in hand or in day pack while boarding the bus.
